Karen Barhite Dental Scholarship

The Barhite Family established The Karen Barhite Dental Scholarship Fund at Owens Community College in honor of Mrs. Barhite who served 35 years in the dental industry- first as a dental assistant and then a longtime periodontal assistant. The scholarship enables Mrs. Barhite, who is committed to dental excellence and oral health education, to pass on her passion and dedication to those aspiring to work in the same rewarding field. The scholarship award will be split between Fall and Spring Semesters. Preference will be given to a student who is obtaining a Dental Assisting Certificate or who is Pre-Dental Hygiene major. Recipients must be students taking coursework for academic credit and counting toward a degree or certificate at Owens Community College. Recipients must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours in the Fall and Spring Semesters at Owens Community College and shall have at least a 2.5 cumulative grade point average (CPGA) on a 4.0 scale. Preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate financial need through the appropriate forms as administered and recommended by the Owens Community College Financial Aid Office.
